As opposed to other Fraxel laser treatments, Affirm causes very little pain and almost no recovery period is necessary. Affirm uses laser micro-beams to penetrate the skin, heating very small areas while keeping the rest of the skin intact. The Affirm uses two different wavelengths, one which penetrates to the superficial dermis, and one which penetrates more deeply to reach collagen and deep tissue. Both of these wavelengths are necessary for the best results. By reaching the deep tissue areas, collagen production is triggered, and tissue is tightened.
Affirm laser facials can take up to an hour to complete, depending on the area being treated. No anesthesia is required; usually a numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure. Pain is very minimal, especially compared to other Fraxel laser treatments. You should be able to return to your normal activities within 24 hours. Post-inflammatory pigmentation is usually expected with Fraxel laser treatments, but this side effect is almost non-existent using Affirm. Depending on your current condition, your doctor may recommend about three to six treatment sessions three to four weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
