Is your face so damaged by the sun that you now have brown spots, freckles, rosacea, or wrinkles? This sun damage can easily be reversed using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), leaving you looking years younger! IPL is not only used for cosmetic purposes but may also remove brown and red spots that have the potential of becoming cancerous. The procedure uses a non-laser light to target your pigments and blood, heating and clearing unwanted dark areas, resulting in a more even-toned and clear complexion. Lasers deliver just one wavelength while IPL systems deliver several wavelengths. The benefit of this procedure is that there is no down time; you may continue with your day to day activities when you are finished!
As with all medical procedures, there are a few possible side effects of Intense Pulsed Light treatments. During the procedure, the patient may feel slight pain or discomfort. Spots have the potential of become darker for up to fourteen days following treatment. Very rare side effects include changes in the pigmentation and texture of the facial skin. As long as you follow the post-treatment instructions, side effects will be minimal. You will be advised to stay out of the sun for up to a month after your procedure; if not, hyperpigmentation may occur. Each session lasts about 20 minutes, contingent upon the area being treated. Depending on your current condition, you will need about four to six treatments, three to six weeks apart to see optimal results. Your doctor will discuss this with you to set up a personalized treatment plan in order to get the best results possible.
